Hey there! I’m Kristen and, like the title says, I’m a mama on the run.
First and foremost, I’m a mom. I have two amazing daughters, ages seven and three. They are smart, independent creatures with energy that pops around me like fireworks. I’m married to a wonderful man, who is a stay-at-home dad, my best friend and partner in crime. He’s an amazing father and the guy can fix ANYTHING.
I am an avid runner and I also work full-time in the corporate world in Richmond, Virginia. Monday through Friday, you’ll find me wearing high heels more often than my Asics. You’ll also find me on the treadmill for those mid-week runs, more often than not. But, come the weekend, I’m out there running, racing and hanging with my family.
I’ve been running since my late 20s and I’ve tackled every kind of race you can think of — 5ks, 10ks, 10-milers, half marathons, 20-milers and full marathons. I’ve also run an ultra — a 50k — and every year I run with an awesome group of friends to complete a 200-mile relay race here in Virginia.
The big news this year is that I’m turning 40. (Cue the music: Dun, dun, DUUUUUUN)
In 2013, I created a shared blog with two of my closest friends as part of a 365 project. Our blog, Making It Daily, shared our daily progress with the world and kept my friends and I connected as one wrote every day, one made art daily, and as I undertook daily running. Yep, at age 39, I undertook and completed a 365-day running streak — and seeing it come to an end was bitter sweet. I also miss staying connected to the running community I met through my blog as well as reconnecting with the writer in me.
So here I am, blogging solo, trying to keep my head above water as a Mama on the Run.
What you’ll find here are the ups, downs and in betweens of a working mom who is counting down to 40.
Please join me on my journey as I run, work, parent, play — and celebrate turning the big 4-0 (in 178 days, in case you’re counting).
